There are no pictures from the college days (sorry about that), as I was not very photogenic in those days.  Also the fact that nobody carried cameras around as much either.  However, the fraternity that I played for was Sigma Tau Alpha.  The political club was Young Americans for Freedom (YAF).

The name Ironmen8 is a tribute to four baseball greats who wore number 8: Yogi Berra, Cal Ripken Jr., Willie Stargell, and Gary Carter.  Also, since I love subway trains, it's a plug for the New York City Transit Authority and the 8th Avenue line, as well as stations named 8th Avenue and 8th Street.

Welcome to the Softball Page

I have been playing softball regularly since 2001.  Prior to that I played in college on a sporadic basis with a fraternity and for a political organization (30 years prior).  This page is dedicated to the playing years since 2001.

Here are some pictures of my days with a prior employer, as well as with the Island Softball Association.

The first four pictures are from when my employer had an East Coast Softball Challenge in Washington DC on September 12, 2004. The New York office was challenged by the Washington office.  It was supposed to be a best of 3 competition, but after 2 games the heat and football won out.  Actually each office won a game so we shared the bragging rights.  There ia a link to another web-site commemorating the series, here on Homestead.

The next three are from the Island Softball Association.  In the first two pictures, I am catching for my team (the Warriors), who are in the third photo. We found new ways to lose, but also new ways to have fun.  The page on Homestead kept the scores.

I played in the Island Softball Association in 2005 and 2006.  Since my daughter had soccer on Sunday, I opted to forego softball in 2007 and go to her games.

However, I returned to the diamond with a new employer in April 2008.  I now am just an extra hitter and occasional outfielder, but also the team's official scorekeeper.  In 2008 we played most of our games in Central Park with a few at DeWitt Clinton Park.  The season ended with our going into the playoffs but losing in the second to last round.  "Wait until next year".

2009 was next year, and we still played most of our games in Central Park, with a few in Morningside Park at the southern reaches of Harlem.  This time we were undefeated in the regular season and lost our only game in the finals, to finish second in the overall position.  "Wait until next year".  Win or lose, I had a great time these two seasons and look forward to being on the team in 2010.
